Al-Balushi Wins First Place Among Emirati Amateurs in the Salam Cycling Race
Dubai Police cyclist Yasser Al-Balushi achieved first place in the Emirati amateurs’ race held yesterday in the Al-Sail area of Dubai as part of the fifth edition of the Salam Cycling Championship, organized by the Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Procurement and Finance. Amer Al-Dahmani and Farouk Al-Jasmi came in second and third place, respectively, from the “Trik M7” team, which managed to secure first place in the team results. The “Turk” team finished in second place, while Dubai Police secured third place.
The race covered a distance of 136 km, with the participation of 79 cyclists from 10 teams: Trik M7, Dubai Police, Al-Wathba, Al-Shafar Jumeirah, Rabdan, Yasi, Turk, Trik Emirates, PR, and Al-Darawish.
This fifth race of the season for the Salam Cycling Championship featured the elite men’s race, the first Emirati amateur race, the Emirati women’s race, and the desert cycling race. The conclusion of the Salam Championship will be on February 8, when the first experimental elite women’s race will take place, making this fifth edition the largest in the history of the championship.
The CEO of the Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Procurement and Finance and the head of the organizing committee, Omar bin Jumaa Al-Falasi, confirmed that the wide participation from teams reflects the awareness among the youth of the nation regarding cycling, thanks to the personal attention from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, who has provided parental support and care for this championship, which has positively impacted the strength of the competitions.
In press statements, he said, “The Salam Cycling Championship has achieved a very important goal by motivating national institutions to form their own cycling teams. Cycling is a wonderful sport with numerous benefits for the health, vitality, and happiness of its practitioners.” Al-Falasi expressed his happiness with the performance of the cyclists and the strong competition among participating teams and individuals. He added, “The numbers achieved in previous races confirm that this championship is experiencing clear and significant growth, whether in terms of practitioners or the entities adopting team formations and participants. We will continue to work to provide opportunities for our nation’s youth and national teams to participate in the races of this championship in upcoming seasons.”
**Al-Balushi: The Fifth Edition Race is Stronger Than Last Year**
Yasser Al-Balushi, the champion of the fifth phase of the Salam Cycling Championship, confirmed that this year’s amateur citizen race was stronger than last year’s.
In press statements, he said, “Last year, speed rates did not exceed 40 km/h, whereas the average speed in yesterday’s race exceeded 43 km/h, which confirms that the level is constantly evolving. This is credited to the organizing committee, which exerted tremendous efforts to ensure the race’s success and enhance its levels.”
He added, “The competitions were difficult and intense among all teams, especially at kilometer 47 of the race, where race conditions imposed themselves on everyone without any special strategy from the Dubai Police cyclists.”
He noted, “Winning this phase of the Salam Championship is part of the goals set by Dubai Police for participating in the competitions they engage in. What has been achieved is the result of the support from the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant General Abdullah Al-Merri, who is a strong supporter of all athletes affiliated with Dubai Police. The least we can do for him is to dedicate the Salam Championship title to him.”
**An Emirati Referee Team Oversees the Race**
As part of the organizing committee’s support for national competencies across all work teams, the race was managed by an Emirati referee team consisting of eight members: Ali Al-Yarubi, Saif Al-Sharqi, Abdullah Al-Hosani, Walid Al-Shamsi, Youssef Al-Muaini, Khalid Al-Mansouri, Ali Al-Dhahani, and Aisha Abdullah.
