Championship with the “50th Year Race” Al-Mari from Team “Trick M7” Claims the Title for Emirati Amateurs

With the presence and sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai (may God protect him), the sixth edition of the Salam Cycling Championship kicked off today, Wednesday, December 15, in the Al-Saih Al-Salam area. This event, organized by the Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for Procurement and Finance, featured the Emirati Men’s Amateur Race, named the “Fifty Race” as part of the United Arab Emirates’ celebrations of the 50th National Day.

Ahmed Al-Mari, a cyclist from Team Trick M7, was crowned the champion of the Emirati Amateur Race “Fifty Race.” Ibrahim Al-Ali from “Trick Emirates” secured second place, and Saeed Al-Balooshi from “Turk” came in third. The race covered a distance of 150 km in the Al-Saih Al-Salam area and the Marmoom Nature Reserve.

The race witnessed the participation of over 90 amateur cyclists, either individually or representing nine national teams, namely: Trick M7, Dubai Police, Al Shafar Jumeirah Team, Al Wathba, B.R.I. Ride, Trick, Turk, Rabdan, and Yasi.

Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Championship, expressed his sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his generous support and patronage of this championship, which is distinguished in its sixth edition to match its significance as the largest sports and community event in the world of cycling. This sixth edition coincides with the country’s celebrations of the 50th National Day and the Golden Jubilee of the founding of the state, as well as the organization of “Expo 2020 Dubai.” He stated: “We were honored by the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the opening race of the sixth edition, titled ‘Year of the Fifty,’ with over 90 Emirati amateur cyclists from various national teams participating. His Highness’s presence was the biggest incentive for us and all participants to present a distinctive edition that aligns with the national occasions we celebrate.”

He added: “The new race course and the establishment of the championship village at the Dubai Endurance Championship added more charm and beauty to the championship atmosphere, as the village featured all teams’ pavilions and service areas in a distinctive manner. The starting point and course also provided greater excitement for the competitions, indicating that this edition will be the strongest, given all the factors for success and the increased experiences of participating cyclists from various national teams.”

Ahmed Obaid Al-Mari, a cyclist from Team Turk 7 and the winner of the Emirati Amateur Race within the Salam Cycling Championship season, expressed his happiness with his achievement after a long and tough competition throughout the race distance. After being crowned, he said: “The competition was extremely challenging, and all teams were ready for the race. Despite the long distance of 150 km, we managed to reach the finish line and secure first place.”

Al-Mari emphasized that despite the difficulty of the competition, the team’s strong support, along with technical assistance, was a key factor in reaching the finish line in first place. He thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his immense and unwavering support for cycling, especially for the Salam race. He added, “We were unlucky with the winds during this race, making it challenging for everyone, but thanks to our teamwork, we managed to win the title.”

He concluded his remarks by thanking the organizing committee for their significant role in supporting cycling through the Salam Championship and also expressed gratitude to team manager Faisal Al-Mari and everyone from Sultan Al-Sabousi to Mohammed Al-Sabousi for their continuous support.

On his part, Ibrahim Al-Ali, a cyclist from Team Trick Emirates who secured second place in the Emirati Amateur Race, stated that his achievement came after fierce competition among everyone, especially given the long distance of 150 km. In statements following the race, he said: “Despite having an accident during the competition, I managed to return quickly. This was a significant challenge for me, but my desire to reach the finish line and achieve a positive result motivated me.” Al-Ali noted that the Salam race is not easy; it is one of the toughest and strongest races, especially since preparations for it take a long time, with camps held for training, making competition fierce among everyone, especially in the final kilometers of the race.

**Eight Races in the Sixth Season**

This race is the first of eight major races taking place this season in the Salam Championship. The next race, the Desert Fifty Race, will be held on December 23, followed by the Hatta-Expo Elite Race for men on January 9, which is the latest addition to the championship calendar. Then, the Golden Jubilee Race will take place on January 18, followed by the Fifty Race for Emirati Female Amateurs on January 26. The Desert Fifty Race for Emirati men and residents will occur on February 3, followed by the Fifty Race for Emirati male amateurs on February 13, with the finale being the Elite Salam Women’s Race on February 14.
